Weekly Pre-Planning for Healthy Eating
When eating healthy takes too much effort I have a hard time staying on track. On hectic weeknights I like to keep our meals as simple as possible. I like to take a little time on the weekend (usually on Sunday) to prepare ahead for the upcoming week. I usually have my meals planned out (plans sometimes change but at least I have the basics).
Here are some simple things you can do on the weekend, or whenever you have a chunk of time. If you do a few things ahead of time it will help you prepare quick healthy meals and snacks during the week.
1. Throw some bananas, and berries in the freezer for morning smoothies.
2. Chop up some fruits and vegetables for quick snacks and meals. I cut up some celery, strawberries, melons and green beans this week.
3. Get meat out of the freezer and put it in the fridge to defrost.
4. Bake muffins, bread, cakes, granola, or cookies and stick them in the freezer. They’ll freeze well for several weeks.
5. Boil a few eggs for snacks, or salads.
6. Double check your ingredients to your weekly menu to make sure you have everything on hand you need.
When I do a little weekend menu pre-planning I’m less likely to order out or stop at the closest drive thru during the week.
