Henry And The Hidden Vegetable Garden Winners

by Linette Gerlach on June 10th, 2008

618M6joSriL._SL500_AA240_ I want to thank the Love Your Veggies Campaign for allowing us to give away 5 copies of Henry and the Hidden Vegetable Garden. I also want to thank everyone who participated, or commented. If you’re looking for great ideas to encourage your children to eat their vegetables, check out all the helpful comments we received on the original giveaway.

I used random.org to pick the winners. Sorry, but if you didn’t follow the rules and leave a comment telling us how you get your kids to eat their vegetables your comment was thrown out and another number chosen.

Here are the winners, with their great stories and ideas to help get your children to love their veggies:

Comment #20 Ret offers this advice…

I put 4 different veggies on the table at dinner and tell them to pick 2. It works every time! They have the right not to like some but if you give them enough of a variety, they will eat!

No kid, but I do have two nephews who love books. They both eat all veggies except green ones like broccoli. One trick is to tell them the broccoli is little trees, but I don’t think it works!

Comment # 57 Karen R. says, bribe them with cheese…

To get them to eat their veggies, I put them into foods they really enjoy, like noodles and sauce. Or with broccoli, I melt some Velveeta cheese over the top of it.

I let my boys pick out the vegetables they want. I have no problem with them eating good vegetables. I guess I was lucky , my oldest would rather sit down and eat a can of peas instead of ice cream.

We have a competition on how many we can fit on our forks…. they’re distracted by the “game”. Another thing is to name the veggies different… like broccoli being “green trees”!!

Congratulations, and thanks for sharing these wonderful ideas. I’ll be contacting you in the next day or so to get your mailing addresses.

Here’s another idea: If you’re trying to get your kids to eat vegetables, you should check out Full Tank Foods. Dr Whitney, a pediatrician, was having problems with her young children eating vegetables. She and her husband, John, created veggie-enriched frozen foods in kid’s favorites like macaroni and cheese. Check them out at http://www.fulltankfoods.com. They’re great!
