Galaxy Vegan Rice Cheese

by Sandy Mitchell on September 2nd, 2008

Rice CheeseI’m continuing my taste tests of non-diary cheeses. This week I tried Galaxy Foods’ Vegan Rice Cheese. I confess that it’s not something that without this blog I would have thought to try…and I was pleasantly surprised. The pressed singles are mild and have a cheese-like flavor and don’t taste a thing like rice. They even melt well on burgers and other dishes, something I missed with the soy cheese that we tried last month.

From a nutritional point of view, this product is completely vegan and has no trans-fats, non preservatives, no gluten, and no cholesterol. For a complete nutritional profile, visit the Galaxy Foods Web site.

Galaxy Vegan Rice Singles are available in the organic food section of many grocery stores, at Whole Foods Market, and online via Vegan retailers like The Vegan Store. My grocery priced them at $3.49. The Vegan Store lists them for $3.99 for a 12-slice package. They come in American, pepper jack, and cheddar flavors.
