Cooking With Kids: Fun With The Green Giants

by Linette Gerlach on June 24th, 2008

food rocketSandy, my blogging partner here at Robust Cooking found a couple wonderful food links in the last few days to you encourage your children to eat healthy. I’m going to share a few with you over the next couple days.

My son’s favorite was a Journey to the valley of the Jolly Green Giants. It’s a fun game for children to play while they learn about healthy food. Sprout, the Green Giant’s nephew is the tour guide.

My son just heard the music from the other room when I brought up the site and came running to “play” the game again. I had to fight him off until I’m done working. He played the other day, and had a great time (and learned some great information about nutrition).

Your child’s mission is to fill their rocket (codename ROGER) with good bio-fuel from healthy fruits, vegetables, meats, beans, dairy, and grains. The giants in the valley help you on your quest. ROGER stands for Recyclable Operating Generation Energy Rocket.

A friendly giant welcomes you to each home, and asks you a question about a healthy food. If you answer correctly you receive fuel for your rocket. It’s a fun and educational game. Teaching your children what foods they need to eat to keep their own rockets properly fueled.

Sprout has his own videos to teach your children about the importance of eating right, and exercising.

The site has links to even more food fun. Including a link to Kidnetic, a fun interactive site with healthy recipes, and fun games to get your children moving. The site also includes a parents page, with even more healthy eating-nutrition links.

Grab your children and go check it out. Let me know what they think.
